Petersfield Cricket clubs indoor side ended the season with a perfect record of 10 wins and 0 defeats in South-East Hampshire (Fareham) Indoor Cricket League Division 3 after their last game of the season with a convincing win against the undefeated winners of the Division 2 Portsmouth and Southsea A.
Petersfield were put into bat first (yet again) and reached 155 in their 12 overs, with excellent batting by Ben Turk (3rd in the bowling averages across the whole league) and Christie Salmon against a very strong Portsmouth and Southsea bowling attack.
In reply, P+S started strongly with Frank Straw being hammered in the first over for 4 sixes! As planned (of course) their batsman retired shortly after, and Damien Carson and Dave Marshall managed to get the scoring under control. Even with 6 dropped catches in the field - some tough, some not so tough - Petersfield managed to take consistent wickets with good fielding by Ben Anscombe (22nd in the batting averages) and Christie Salmon. Portsmouth and Southsea were restricted to 85 in the 9th over when Ben Turk took the final wicket, clean bowling the last batsman.
A great win against the best of the Division above, and the first bit of Silverware for the re-furbished pavilion! It bodes well for the next Indoor season, and hopefully the confidence and winning ways will continue into the upcoming summer fixtures, which are almost upon us!
