Petersfield 2s were looking to make it 2 wins out of 2 having had last week's game called off by the opposition, their opponents were Knowle Village. Skipper Steve Gibson won the toss and chose to field to make use of the new ball despite only having 10 players at the start of the game.
The first wicket fell with the score on 15 when Steve Gibson (2-17) removed his opposite number Matthew Fisk (4) caught in the covers by Paul Clarke (1 of 4 catches for Paul on the day). Oscar Maclean (1-8) then removed S Izzard (10) forcing him to chop on to his off stump.
Alex Rae (14) and Sam Rogan (25) then went on the counter attack both hitting some good shots down the ground before Dave Squires (2-27) removed Rae caught in the deep by Gibson. H Timmins (0) was then trapped LBW by Squires plumb in front. Petersfield were keeping it tight with some good bowling from Omar Iqbal (2-13) and Mark Holloway (2-7) and it was Iqbal who removed Sam Rogan with an inswinging yorker which hit him flush on the foot (a proper toe crusher).
Krunal Patel (11) and James Shrubb (16) again hit some nice shots to push the score along despite some superb bowling from Oscar Maclean who had the ball swinging in prodigiously without getting the wicket he deserved in his second spell. Heather Clarke (1-15) had Chris Bevis (2) caught in the covers by dad Paul and Steve Gibson removed James Shrubb bowled to end the innings with Knowle having made 105 from 37.3 overs.
Petersfield got off to the worst start possible as Dave Squires (0) was bowled 3rd ball by Krunal Patel (2-17). John Windebank (28) and Nathan Barlow (46) put on a very comfortable 81 for the second wicket with Nathan in particular hitting some lovely cover drives to take Petersfield to within 25 of the victory. Paul Clarke (16) came in and looked to be supporting Barlow to knock off the remaining runs then Barlow missed timed another cover driver to be caught by Chris Bevis off S Izzard (3-13) cna Clarke followed soon after.
This prompted a mini collapse as Oscar Maclean (4), David Longland (0) and Omar Iqbal (0) came and went in quick succession leaving Petersfield 104-7 and Knowle Village eyeing a remarkable comeback. Katie Jackson (0 not out) and Mark Holloway (2 not out) saw out a couple of overs before a short ball from S Izzard allowed mark to get him away for 2 runs to seal victory.
A hard fought victory but well deserved by Petersfield as yet again their bowling proved to be the difference between the sides
Man Of the match - Nathan Barlow for turning up late (work commitments) and still producing a match winning innings
Champagne Moment John Windebank diving full lenth to take a hooping ball from Oscar Maclean down the legside which pitched about 6th stump on the offside
