Petersfield CC won by 6 wickets
Dave Marshall 82 not out
Chris Russell 4-46 and 46 runs
Petersfield lost the toss and not surprisingly were inserted by Southampton on a pitch with a green tinge on it.
Joe Clarke (0-34) bowled superbly beating both openers outside edge at will but was unable to get the wicket his bowling deserved. Jack Butcher (1-47) picked up the first wicket with the score on 20. The wickets fell at regular intervals with Henry Shore (2-45) picking up two identical wickets as the Southampton Community players cut to point for Chris Russell to take the catches. Petersfield were mainly in control reducing the opposition to 152-8 with Chris Russell picking up 4 wickets for 46 runs (despite 2 dropped catches). The Southampton tail then wagged to great effect as Petersfield struggled to create chances and the last 2 wickets putting on 86 leaving Southampton on 237-9.
Jake Hastie (23) and Henry Shore (9) got off to a slow start before Henry gloved the opening bowler through to the keeper as the bowler finally got a ball to bounce above waist height on a dead wicket. Jake was putting away the bad balls beautifully before he was bowled with the score on 44. Dave Marshall (82 not out) and Chris Russell (46) then put on 122 for the 3rd wicket as they batted sensibly keeping the scoreboard moving with quick singles and the occasional crisp cover drive. With 15 overs left Petersfield were needing 7 ½ an over with Southampton trying to put the squeeze on. Chris and Dave were not phased by the attempt to squeeze them and started to accelerate before Chris was given out caught behind when he hit his bat onto his foot.
Hans Mai (31) then joined skipper Marshall with the game now in the balance with the required rate still at 7 an over. Hans and Dave then put the Southampton bowling to the sword as they took full advantage of tiredness of the bowlers with Hans in particular hitting some lovely shots with one particular 6 over mid off which would not have been out of place in a Jason Roy boundary compilation. Hans was caught and bowled with only 8 needed from 4 overs remaining, Dave Marshall hit the winning runs in the 44th over completing a fine captain's innings.
Man of the match - Chris Russell 4 wickets, 46 runs and 2 catches
Special mentions to Dave Marshall who lead from the front with his 82 and Gemma for getting water and an ice box from the local supermarket on a scorcher of a day in Eastleigh.
Moment of the match - Hans Mai being caught on the boundary but the Southampton skipper then took a step back over the line for 1 of his sixes.
