Petersfield CC won by 115 runs
Fergus Evans 33
Jack Butcher 4-10
After 2 weeks without a game due to a bye and the weather Petersfield looked to get back to winning ways as they faced Bedhampton in Emsworth. Bedhampton lost the toss and on a pitch looking like it would be good to bowl first on they inserted Petersfield.
Last seasons opening partnership was reunited but this was broken with the score on 8 as Dave Squires (3) missed a straight one to be trapped LBW by Andy Wellen (2-27). Unlike the previous game this did not cause a collapse as the Evans brothers Fergus (32) and David (19) put away the bad balls and ran well to take the score to 49 before David was clean bowled by a nip backer from Tom Moore (1-20). Another youngster James Longland (22) joined Fergus and again another partnership was built along the same foundations as for the 2nd wicket with another 40 odd runs put on until James was adjudged LBW playing back to Daniel Frostick (1-11). Clive Shore (17) was next in and played some lovely shots square of the wicket to maintain the run rate of around 4 an over.
Fergus was then bowled by Roy Goulding (1-28) again playing back to a delivery he needed to get forward too but a superb knock proving to be the glue that kept the innings ticking along. David Longland (23 not out) timed the ball very well and with help from Nathan Barlow (8) and Mark Holloway (5 not out) got Petersfield to 157-6 from their 40 overs, with a slow outfield and pitch the total was a very good one.
Bedhampton started slowly as Captain Steve Gibson (1-16) and Nathan Barlow (2-5) bowled tight lines and lengths. Bedhampton skipper Andy Wellen (5) and opening partner Ray Goulding (0) both were back in the pavilion with the score on 12. Only Peter Ford (10) managed to get in to double figures as the lack of bounce in the pitch and the tight bowling from Gibson and Barlow. Scoreboard pressure then bought 2 quick wickets as Ford mistimed a pull to Gibson at mdwicket quickly followed by a run out of Sudip Sen (3) as Fergus Evans stopped the ball and then threw the ball in to wicket keeper Squires to remove the bails, Sen was well short of his ground. The score was 32-5 at this point.
Jack Butcher (4-10) then removed Dave Hickley (2) and Callum Burridge (0) in successive balls but had to wait till his next over for his hat-trick chance. Paul Clarke (2-5) replaced Barlow and got immediate reward as he bowled James Barry with a delivery that just clipped the leg stump, The score was now 39-8 as Jack Butcher had his hat-trick chance with 2 slips, a short midwicket and short cover. Jack bowled the ball and the batsmen looking to block the ball lobbed it up but it was just to far away from Clive Shore and the chance had gone. Paul Clarke then castled Daniel Frostick (2) before Jack Butcher wrapped up the innings in the following over bowling Steve Gritt (0). Bedhampton all out for 42 in the 21st over.
A very good all round performance from Petersfield to move them 6th in the table
