Superb performance from youngster

Georgie Russell made her debut for Hampshire against Surrey on Sunday and made a great impression. Hampshire won the toss and elected to bat soon found themselves 20-5 as Surrey’s opening bowlers bowled well to finish with combined figures of 10 overs 5 wickets 16 runs.

A nervous Georgie batting at number 9 (picked as a bowler) came in at 50-8 trying to add runs to give her and her fellow bowlers something to bowl at. With Lottie Blackwell (13) she helped Hampshire as the tail wagged that got Hampshire up to 92 all out with Georgie the last batter out having scored 8 off 35 balls.

Georgie Russell opened the bowling and immediately made her mark on Surrey taking the first 2 wickets in a maiden first over. It was a superb opening salvo from Hampshire as Georgie and Lottie Blackwell took 5 for 17 to match what Surrey had done earlier to leave Surrey 8 for 5. Surrey had a fightback mid-innings with Lucy Golding (25) and Flora Howe (17) before the pair were removed within 10 runs. Surrey were all out for 79.

Petersfield youngster Georgie Russell finished with figures of 3 overs, 1 maiden, 3 wickets for 6 runs. Superb figures on your debut well played Georgie
